Little River Glen

SITE
A gently sloped 7.3 acre site located in suburban Fairfax County. Adjacent uses include single family residences.

PROGRAM
Design 120 units of congregate housing for the elderly and a neighborhood Senior Center. A noted sociologist worked with he client and EDG to help structure the design program.

SOLUTION
The project consists of a campus of four 2-story residential buildings which resemble large houses and a Senior Center oriented around a large courtyard. Each building has a common lounge, kitchen and dining area and a porch, which reinforces a normal residential atmosphere. The units include a kitchenette and a sleeping alcove or bedroom in addition to the living-dining area. The Senior Center has a multi-purpose room, commercial kitchen, offices, a pub, a lounge with the fireplace and other facilities for recreation and meetings.
